Learn Spanish → Spain (Castilian)

Master the Spanish.

Master Castilian — the famous theta (/θ/), rolled R, and distinct vosotros.

About this accent

The phonetic identity of Spanish.

Castilian Spanish distinguishes /s/ and /θ/ ("casa" vs "caza"), uses a sharper rolled R, and keeps the "vosotros" plural form alive. Pitch is slightly higher and faster than Latin American Spanish. AnyAccent drills the theta sound that Latin American speakers replace with /s/.

FAQ

Common questions.

Will I be understood in Latin America if I learn Castilian?

Yes — Castilian and Latin American Spanish are mutually intelligible. The /θ/ for c/z is the main marker; Latin Americans will recognize it instantly as European Spanish.

How do I roll my R?

AnyAccent scores trill vs tap separately, with progressive drills (single tap → multi-tap → full trill). Most learners get a reliable trill in 4–6 weeks of daily practice.

Should I learn vosotros if I do not live in Spain?

It is the conjugation that most marks you as a Spain-Spanish speaker, but it is rarely needed outside Spain. AnyAccent drills both vosotros and ustedes — pick what fits your goal.

Is this the Madrid accent or general Castilian?

The model targets the central-Spain broadcast standard (think TVE). Andalusian, Catalan-influenced, and Latin American variants are scored as separate accents.

How is this different from Mexican Spanish in your scoring?

Two separate engines with different phoneme inventories: theta (/θ/) is required in Castilian, banned in Mexican. The same sentence scores differently in es-ES vs es-MX.
